Can I Get Motorcycle Insurance Without a License in Texas?
While Texas law doesn’t require you specifically to have a license in order to get insurance, most insurance companies will ask you to provide a license number when you sign up for motorcycle insurance.
If you live in Texas and own a motorcycle, we strongly encourage you to have both a motorcycle license and motorcycle insurance.
Driving a motorcycle without a valid class-M license (see next section for more details) and insurance can result in fines.

How Do I Get a Motorcycle License in Texas?
In order to obtain a motorcycle license in Texas, you are required to meet the requirements of a legal driving license. That means presenting proof of the following:
- U.S. Citizenship (or evidence of lawful presence if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Texas residency
- Identity
- Social security number
- Evidence of vehicle registration
- Proof of insurance for each vehicle you own
In addition to these requirements, you’ll also have to apply for a Class M to operate a motorcycle. In order to do this, you’ll need to take and complete an approved motorcycle safety course.
Vision and knowledge tests may also be required. However, the knowledge test is waived if you present a valid Motorcycle Safety Course completion certificate as of January 12, 2015.
